Q. What can the 3D printers do? What kind of filament do they use?

There are 3 different types of 3D printers housed in the FabLab:

PolyPrinter 229 (ABS Filament or NinjaFlex Filament) which can reliably produce objects down to 125 micron (0.125mm) resolution

Prusa I3 Mk3 (PLA or personally provided filament approved by staff) which can reliably produce objects down to 50 micron (0.05mm) resolution

Prusa I3 MK3 MultiMaterial Unit (PLA or personally provided filament approved by staff) which can reliably produce objects down to 50 micron (0.05mm) resolution while using up to 5 different channels of filament

This is the pre-approved list for personally provided filament

If you have questions about specific materials or costs, please refer to the machines informational page to see more. If you’d like assistance always feel free to ask a staff member during your visit.

Lastly, all 3D printers use .STL file formatting, and if you have questions or need help prior to your visit you can contact the FabLab here: fablab@uta.edu or 817-272-1785
